Support the Preservation of Ancestral Seeds

Ancestral seeds are the foundation of life on Earth. In their original form, they hold the genetic diversity and nutritional richness needed to fully nourish the human body. Corn, in particular, is not only central to our diet—it is central to the health of the soil and the Earth’s natural cycles.

Today, ancestral seeds are at risk. As genetically modified seeds continue to dominate commercial agriculture, many of the original, naturally evolved seeds are disappearing. These modified seeds may produce crops in abundance, but they are often stripped of vital nutrients, unable to adapt to diverse ecosystems, and dependent on chemicals to grow. When we lose ancestral seeds, we lose much more than a food source—we lose the Earth’s resilience, living culture, and the deep knowledge carried in each seed, passed down through generations of Indigenous communities who have stewarded them with wisdom and respect.

Corn is the mother of the American continent. At this critical moment, we are being called to protect and preserve these sacred seeds. In the Sierra Madre region of Mexico, our community—the Wixarika people—are actively engaged in the sacred work of planting, caring for, and protecting ancestral corn. This requires great physical, spiritual, and financial effort. Your support can make a real difference in keeping these seeds and traditions alive.

Our family is deeply committed to this mission through the Taimarita Ceremonial Center, where corn in its many ancestral colors is cultivated and honored through ceremony. These gatherings follow the full cycle of the seed and are open to all who feel called to witness, learn, and receive the blessings.

Las semillas ancestrales son la base de la vida en la Tierra. En su forma original, contienen la diversidad genética y la riqueza nutricional necesarias para nutrir al cuerpo humano de una manera completa. El maíz, en particular, no es solo esencial para nuestra alimentación, sino también para la salud de la tierra y los ciclos naturales del planeta.

Hoy, las semillas ancestrales están en peligro. Cada vez más, las semillas genéticamente modificadas dominan la agricultura comercial, y muchas de las semillas originales, que han evolucionado de forma natural con el paso del tiempo, están desapareciendo. Estas semillas modificadas pueden producir mucha cosecha, pero suelen estar despojadas de nutrientes esenciales, no se adaptan bien a los diferentes ecosistemas y dependen de químicos para crecer. Cuando perdemos las semillas ancestrales, perdemos mucho más que un alimento: perdemos la resistencia de la tierra, la cultura viva y el conocimiento profundo que cada semilla guarda, transmitido por generaciones de comunidades indígenas que las han cuidado con sabiduría y respeto.

El maíz es la madre del continente americano. En este momento tan importante, estamos siendo llamados a proteger y preservar estas semillas sagradas. En la región de la Sierra Madre en México, nuestra comunidad—el pueblo Wixarika—está llevando a cabo el trabajo sagrado de sembrar, cuidar y mantener el maíz ancestral. Esta labor requiere un gran esfuerzo físico, espiritual y económico. Tu apoyo puede marcar una gran diferencia para que estas tradiciones y semillas sigan vivas.

Nuestra familia está profundamente comprometida con esta misión a través del Centro Ceremonial Taimarita, donde se cultiva maíz en sus muchos colores ancestrales y se honra su ciclo completo mediante la ceremonia.
